The Dane Mattias Skjelmose (Trek Segafredo) made a double blow at the Tour of Luxembourg by wearing the leader’s yellow jersey, after winning the individual time trial that started and finished in Remich, with a distance of 26.1 km.
The 21-year-old from Copenhagen took his first win as a pro, after multiple second and third places throughout the season. In Remich he was the most powerful in the time trial and managed to win with a time of 34.05 minutes, at an average of 43.9 km/hour.
The second place in 3 seconds corresponds to the Frenchman Kevin Vauquelin (Arkea) and the third to the Danish Morten Hulgaard (Uno X), in 13. The Frenchman Valentin Madouas (Groupama) could not keep the yellow jersey, he was tenth in 39 seconds. The first Spaniard was Txomin Juaristi (Euskaltel Euskadi), 55 seconds behind.
In the general classification, Skjelmose leads Vauquelin by 3 seconds and Dutchman Sjoerd Bax (Alpecin Deceuninck) by 14, while fourth place goes to Madouas in 21.
“After countless times staying on the brink of success, I finally achieved it. It was something incredible, hard to explain. The test of time was tough, but I gave it my best and everything went well, I feel happy”, said the winner..
The Tour of Luxembourg is getting exciting, because in the absence of a day the top 10 is in a handkerchief of 39 seconds.
This Saturday will take place the fifth and final stage between Mersch and Luxembourg, 178.4 km long.
