Fitzpatrick, Italian Open leader with McIlroy one stroke away

English Matt Fitzpatrick alone leads the Italian Opentournament of DP World Golf Tour what is played in the club Marco Simone of Romeand this Sunday he will face the fourth and final day with a stroke advantage against the world number 2 Northern Irishman Rory McIlroyand the Englishman Aaron Rai.

On a day marked by the wind, Fitzpatrick, eleventh in the ranking and this year’s winner of US Open, posted his second straight 69 (2 under par). Three birdies in the final nine holes allowed him to shake off a bogey at the 6th to regain the lead. Accumulate 203 hits (-10).

One is McIlroy and Rai. The Northern Irishman, who was co-leader at the start of day three, signed for par (71) on Saturday in a complicated round with three birdies for as many bogeys, while the Englishman, who topped the table, got in the fight for victory thanks to a card of 65 (-6), the best of the third day.

Two shots behind the leader are Australian Lucas Herbert, American Kurt Kitayama and Frenchman Víctor Pérez.

Of the seven Spaniards, the best was Jorge Campillo from Cáceres, with -4, six behind the leader in 12th place. Also under par are Santiago Tarrío from Coruña (-2), Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño from Madrid and Adrián Otaegui from San Sebastian (-1).
