“We have to review several things, but we want more fans, that the stadiums are full. We will watch the prices, the trips, we will look together to find out what we have to do to attract as many people as possible,” he added.
For his part, the director of the Final Phases of the Davis Cup, David Ferrer, commented that “it has been a week with great tennis, for me it is very exciting to see this tennis in all the place In Valencia we still don’t know who qualifies, Spain is fighting to get to Malaga… we have 8 ‘top’ tennis players playing. Nadal, Djokovic or Carreño cannot be here, but I am proud, this is a special competition for me and we will work in the future to improve the competition”.
Ferrer explained that the balance he is working on this week in the four group stages is “very positive”. and he welcomed the reception they received from the first moment tickets went on sale “it was amazing”.
“It was a great experience, a week of great tennis, with very exciting qualifiers. I enjoy working for Davis, a special competition for me, and now we have to try to improve this competition for the future. That in Valencia there is this atmosphere of tennis, of the Davis Cup, I loved it and experienced it again, now from the other side. And also happy with how the other venues went,” he added.
When asked if Valencia, Glasgow, Hamburg and Bologna will repeat as venues for next year’s group stage, Enric Rojas said: “We have some agreements, but in case the teams of any of these places are not classified, we will change the city, otherwise we will be here“.
Regarding the possibility that Valencia will host the Final Phase of the 2024 edition, once the contract with Malaga expires at the end of the 2023 edition, the director of Kosmos admitted that there has already been an expression of interest on the part of Valencia but they added that , as logically, a process of selecting other cities in the world that may be interested.
“In Valencia, the agreement has been here for several years. It is a fact that the new Arena pavilion will be available in 2024 and the agreement with Malaga is until 2023, but we have to follow a procedure to give opportunities to other cities in the world. Valencia has clearly shown us its interest, from public and private institutions, to have the final here in 2024. But at the end of this edition we will start the selection process,” he concluded.
