Frightened moments in EIF: an e-bike battery caught fire-38 people had to flee, 15 were injured! The residents are now confronted with an uncertain future. During the fire evening they were able to spend the night in the Niederalm Senior Citizens’ House. It is not yet clear how things are going on.
“It was smoke everywhere. I couldn’t even go to the stairs,” says Tara Ali. He is one of the 38 people who lost almost everything on Saturday by the fire of a house in Ann.
According to the police, the battery of an electric bicycle had set on fire. There was only one option for the inhabitants of the upper floors: outside the leaders of the fire brigade in the cold May Night.
Fire scent the day after
The next day it still smells burnt on the street. Shocked residents stand in front of the building at the local inspection “Krone”. Some bring their possessions in sports bags to safety and load cars for an uncertain future. Mother Viktoria keeps daughter Alice in her arms, some look unbelieving at the house.
Even Tara Ali cannot believe what happened: “I am grateful that the salvation through the window worked so well. But I don’t know where to live until I can go back.”
Residents housed in the seniors house
Because there were suddenly so many people without their own four walls, the Aniffall plan reached: “The residents of the house were housed in a room in a room in the Niedalm Senior residential building,” says Mayor Gabriella Hermacher-Leitner. In 15 of them there was a suspicion of flue gas poisoning, four took the rescue in the hospital. Nobody was seriously injured like a miracle.
It is still unclear when people go home. “The stairs are strong. We have to ventilate for a few days. Then hopefully it can go home in the middle or at the end of next week. But it will certainly take much longer for the brand apartment,” says landlord Markus Feßler.
