According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the oldest dog in the world has died. Pebbles, a fox terrier, died of natural causes at the age of 22 at her South Carolina home.
According to her owners, “Pebbles” had a happy canine life, the fox terrier bitch born on March 28, 2000, gave birth to 32 puppies from three litters during this time. “She loved country music and the summer,” owner Julie Gregory recalled in a Guinness World Records press release. The secret to the age of “Pebble”? Gregory attributes the health of the bitch to the care of the animal, which she treated “with the utmost care”.
Cat food on the menu
What role cat food played is unclear. Ten years ago, “Pebbles” even switched from her vet to cat food. This contains a higher protein content based on meat.
“Pebbles” was only named the oldest dog in the world in May. Besides, in five months she would be 23 years old.
