The early bird doesn’t catch worms, it finds mushrooms – at least that’s what the 84-year-old had in mind on Sunday. At six o’clock in the morning he set out to forage for mushrooms in a forest in the Mitterberg area of Gmunden. Suddenly he couldn’t go on.

The senior fell and was unable to get up independently due to exhaustion. It is unclear how long he lay helpless in the woods. About six hours after the 84-year-old left, a 48-year-old and his family from Ohlsdorf discovered him.
Senior sat again
The emergency services took care of the Gmundner, the 48-year-old ran to the nearest house to call the emergency services. When the mountain rescue team arrived, the mushroom picker was able to sit up again. The senior independently descended about 100 meters to the sunken path, from where the mountain rescuers took him to the Salzkammergut clinic in Gmunden for a check-up.
