Sonego (n.65 ATP) defeated American Sebastian Korda (n.49), by doubles 6-4, needing only two breaks (one in each set) of his rival’s serve.
Hurkacz (n.10 ATP and 2 in the tournament), for his part, defeated Frenchman Arthur Rincerknech (n.60), 6-3, 6-2, in what was his second win over the Frenchman in same number of matches ..
Three breaks of the rival’s service (one in the first set, two in the second) were enough for the Pole to win a game well within his reach.
Sonego and Hurkacz will answer this Saturday for passage to the final, in a rivalry that will live into the sixth stage, with the Italian having won three of the previous three.
Wawrinka will face Swedish executioner Mikael Ymer in three sets (6-4, 4-6 and 7-6 (5)) in the second semifinal, along with Bublik, who eliminated Danish Holger Rune 6-3, 5- 7 and 6-4
