The star commentator for TV2, the Danish television station that owns the rights to the Nordic country’s national team, Brian Laudrup was fired this week by the network.
The reason? The filming of the 1992 European Championship champion’s publicity clip for ‘Visit Dubai’, the emirate’s tourist office, without informing TV2.
At a time when human rights and environmental issues are at the center of debate in Denmark, whether in Qatar or elsewhere in the region, TV2 has decided to part ways with the former national team star.
Brian Laudrup, 53, was capped 82 times by Denmark between 1987 and 1998. At club level he played for Bröndby, Bayer Uerdingen, Bayern Munich, MIlan, Ranhers, Chelsea, FC Copenhagen and Ajax.
