The most supportive MAMBA returns in December

Date:

The sixth edition of this international tournament for veterans, conceived in Murcia, will be held in Cartagena

It has already become an important event in the Murcian basketball calendar in its own right and while there are still more than two months to go before it is held, the organization is already well advanced. The MAMBA, a tournament named after a game with the initials Masters Maxi Basketball in tribute to legendary basketball player Kobe Bryant’s nickname (the “black mamba”), already has a date and venue for its sixth edition. This will be from December 2-4, and Cartagena would repeat as the capital of basketball for veterans.

During those days, the trimillenium will be a melting pot of cultures around this basketball tournament that will bring together teams from some twelve European countries, with up to twenty different nationalities who can come together in Cartagena for a tournament that, originally understood as an amalgamation of sport, tourism and culture. Murcia and San Javier have also been MAMBA locations in the past and new locations in the region are not excluded for the future.

For now, for this sixth edition, the MAMBA will restore its classic format of competitions in different categories, ranging from +40 in the case of the youngest to +55 in the case of the oldest, and in both genders. As a novelty, businessman Fernando Zaplana celebrates the inclusion of the Vikings team from Denmark, a country that until now had not placed a flag in the MAMBA, and highlights “several national teams from Great Britain completing their registration”. Of course, Spain will again be the most represented country, with sets of places such as Madrid, Catalonia and Granada already having confirmed their participation.

In addition, this year the organization has joined forces with the Never Surrender Foundation, which supports cancer patients in the Murcia region. Basketball will serve as a means for more people to learn about the foundation’s work and grow its staff. Selflessly, NeverSurrender offers free strength training to people affected by cancer, guided by qualified professionals in gyms across the community, in addition to various fundraising and growth initiatives to reach more people.

This year, the MAMBA will offer a few commemorative shirts from the tournament for sale, the proceeds of which will go entirely to the foundation.
