Colombian boxer Jose Munoz He said Tuesday that he wanted to “turn back time” to avoid the knockout he gave his rival Luis Quinonezwho has been in an induced coma since Saturday night at a clinic in Barranquilla.
The boxers were fighting in that city in northern Colombia for the national title in the junior welterweight category when, in the eighth round, Quiñónez was knocked out and left sprawled in the ring.
The athlete was transferred to a hospital where he continues with a reserved prognosis.
“I never thought that a dream could turn into a real nightmare”Muñoz said in a statement where he pointed out that “the desire to succeed in life put us on the same path, but because of those things in life and especially in the profession we chose, now you are (Quiñónez) in a situation. that we never imagined,” he continued.
Both became “partners and friends” and that’s why Muñoz indicated that he wants “to go back in time and it never happened.”
“I can’t help but think of myself in your situation and I question why this happened to you,” she lamented.
“I wish with all my heart that you get well and get up there to continue fighting for your dreams,” the boxer confessed.
Quiñónez, 21, from Bucaramanga, was taken out of the ring on a stretcher and later underwent surgery for a blood clot, after which he was placed in an induced coma and remains in an intensive care unit (ICU).
