Gordon and Riley lead Sanderson Farms

The American Davis-Riley shot a bogey-free round of 66 shots and a 6 under par on Thursday and shares the lead with Will Gordonwith seven birdies and one bogey, after the First round of the Sanderson Farms Championship in jackson.

Riley, 25, started with four birdies in the first seven holes at Jackson Country Club. He added two more to Nos. 15 and 16, the latter an 18-foot putt, were the longest of the day. “I didn’t have the best day with my driver, but when I got to the fairway, I felt like I had a good chance to make some good approaches there.”

Riley’s best performance on the PGA Tour was a second-place finish at last year’s Valspar. There is added pressure on him to win his home state event. The Hattiesburg native called the tournament “my fifth major” earlier this week.

In its part, Gordon he finished the day with seven birdies and just one bogey. He gained positions in the afternoon with birdies at Nos. 14, 15 and 17 to tie Riley.
