Foggia teasingly took the post at Buriram

Date:

The 17th pole of the 2022 campaign was taken at the Thai GP in Buriram by the Italian Dennis Foggia, the first leader in the category in Qatar, who was unopposed in the dry lap in Buriram to add his third pole of the year and always ahead of Jaume Masiá and Ayumu Sasaki. The two men playing for the title will start eleventh Izan Guevara and twentieth Sergio García Dols on a gray day for GasGas Aspar.

Once again a timing of approaches, of drivers entering and leaving the pitlane and looking for a slipstream and the Japanese Ayumu Sasaki established the first provisional pole with 1’42″486 and only one lap driven to in half of the 14 participants when it took half the time.

Dennis Foggia, the great favorite, took advantage of the free track to improve Sasaki’s time to 1’42″466 and also returned to the pitlane after one lap. Then Izan Guevara, with Yamanaka at the wheel, who came out to made sure of at least a sixth before the entire peloton was forced out at once in just over a minute and a half.

Jaume Masiá with 1’42″369 beat the time of Foggia, who managed to get rid of rivals in his slipstream and took pole with 1’42″077, a new record of seven thousandths and leaving Masiá almost three tenths and more than 4 tenths of Sasaki are his teammates on the front line. He did it when and how the Italian wanted, who after one turn took another step.

Daniel Holgado will start sixth and world championship leader Izan Guevara, eleventh, drops to fourth row.

9 out of 11 Spaniards in Q1

Nine of the eleven Spaniards registered crashed in Q1, only Jaume Masiá and Daniel Holgado were saved from ‘burning’ and this included the two main contenders for the title Izan Guevara and Sergio García Dols, 18th and -23 in free practice, respectively, with Dennis Foggia, the great rival, leading the practice sessions with a track record.

Finally the four passports were obtained by Fellon, Izan Guevara, Furusato and David Muñoz after the leader played with strategies with his rivals who bet on his tire although the rebound problem has not been resolved. If there is no change due to possible penalties, Pitito Fernández will start 19th, Sergio García Dols 20th, Carlos Tatay 23rd, Xavi Artigas 24th, Ivan Ortolá 25th, Vicente Pérez 26th and Ana Carrasco on the 28th.
