Arcelor Mittal and the unions UGT, CCOO and USO agreed this Friday evening in Etxebarri to apply a Broadcasting Regulations (ERTE) until December 31, 2022 who guarantees 90% of the gross annual salary.

This agreement, reported by UGT FICA in a press release, stipulates that the ERTE for each factory should be applied to the workforce based on the decrease in production: for Asturias 25% of the maximum application; sagunto (40%); Etxebarric (twenty%); Lesaka (60%), and in Long (Olaberria-Bergara) 20%.

This file will not be applied in an installation that has 100% production capacity, while for the personnel of the transversal services, the application will be maximum the percentage of the installation to which they belong.

As for the terms, the company and the unions have agreed that the salary percentage 90% of the gross annual salary and 100% for extra payments and holidays. The agreement also includes training, in accordance with the provisions of the workers’ statute, and a follow-up committee at both the local and state levels.

Given the current scenario of uncertainty, Arcelor Mittal has first proposed to the unions an ERTE for its factories in Spain, excluding Condesa, valid until December 2023, which would affect its 8,300 employees.

As a reaction

For its part, ELA has rejected again the ERTE because it believes that the company uses this mechanism in a “structural” way to “cutting costs at the expense of the treasury”.

In a statement, ELA recalled that Arcelor Mittal applies since 2009 “practically uninterrupted” an ERTE, despite the fact that the multinational had a global advantage of more than 13 billion.

The union of Abertzale has required the company to carry out investments and industrial plans that guarantee the future of the Basque factories, in addition to addressing a rejuvenation of the workforce, applying the “correct” help contract and get the “I spread the wealth”.

Likewise, he has urged the Basque and Navarrese governments to adopt a “much more active position against a company that makes a profit when it has fewer staff every year”.
