Guardiola: “Liverpool is still our biggest rival”

Date:

Pep Guardiola said this Friday in a press conference that, despite Liverpool has 13 points less than Manchester City, “it is still our biggest rival in the Premier”. This Sunday, Liverpool and City star in a new edition of their great rivalry, in this case at Anfield, but Klopp says that, as things stand, his team are not among the title candidates of the English champion-

“Liverpool has always been our biggest rival, always and always will be,” Guardiola told the media. The Catalan coach’s City is 2nd in the Premier tableone point behind the leader, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

“I know the quality they have, just like they know the quality we have. If there were 5 or 10 games left I would say yes, Liverpool will not reach the top.. But in a World Cup in the middle of the season anything can happen”, the words of Pep Guardiola.

Liverpool won 3-1 at City on July 30 in the Community Shield and left Guardiola’s men short of an FA Cup final by beating them 3-2 in the semis. The city manager said “Maybe we are too soft in both games, for various circumstances, because, if they push you, you have to push, if they are there, you also have to be there”.

Regarding the defeat in the semi-final of the FA Cup on April 16, Guardiola assured: “It is difficult to recover after the great effort we made in the Champions League (in the second leg of the quarterfinals on April 13 against Atlético, 0 -0 after 1-0 in the first leg and the ‘citizen’ in the semifinals)”. And about the Community Shield: “We are not ready yet. Liverpool have more rhythm than us and so you can’t compete against a team like this.”
