The Psychological Attention Point, one of the novelties in the 1st Water Games

Date:

The athletes had an information tent and a conference on the topic

A few weeks ago, the first Water Games, a sporting event organized by the Region of Murcia in six different locations (in Cartagena, San Javier, Los Alcázares and San Pedro del Pinatar) came to an end where a total of ten federations met, contested in total nineteen championships.

In this first edition there was a Psychological Attention Point, led by sports psychologist María del Mar Aracil. Set up in the rowing (Los Alcázares), canoe (Santiago de la Ribera), triathlon and flyski (Cartagena) championships, the tent answered questions about sports psychology, psychological preparation for competition and other types of doubts.

In addition, the Los Alcázares High Performance Center (CAR Infanta Cristina) hosted the “How to Control My Nerves in Competition” conference, attended by CAR athletes themselves. The figure of the sports psychologist, who is increasingly in demand both in elite competitions and in amateur athletes or in regional championships, was also present both at the championships and at the training sessions in the port of Cabo de Palos, on the beach of Levante, in La Manga, Lo Pagán or in the port of Cartagena.

In the words of María del Mar Aracil, it is a plus for the athlete to be able to count on this point of psychological attention: «It is a pleasure to be able to participate in the first edition of the Water Games to meet a need defend those increasingly valued in sports such as mental health. Including psychological care at sporting events is a groundbreaking commitment that has become indispensable».

His project, Eme del Mar Sports Psychology, was created in July 2021 as a support in this area for mainly nautical and water sports. But as the founder says, “It is open to anyone who wants to work on their performance and well-being, whether they are an athlete or not, to train their psychological side.” In fact, the most in-demand areas are sports, academic and business achievements.

“Various national teams and institutions are increasingly appreciating the figure of the sports psychologist, not as something specific, but to record the department in their organizational chart and work with athletes on a daily basis from an early age and in preparation for competitions,” says María del Mar speaking in the first person, has become a reference at regional and national level, despite starting his project a little over a year ago.
