The midfielder of the national team Costa Rica Orlando Galo (22 years old) has tested positive in doping control and is awaiting a resolution from FIFA on this, the Costa Rican Football Federation (FCRF) reported on Tuesday.
The FCRF explained in a statement that it had received a letter from FIFA notifying the player that after doping control Orlando Gallo “tested positive for the use of a scheduled prohibited substance” known as clostebol.
“The samples were taken on September 21, when the Costa Rican National Team arrived in the Republic of Korea for a friendly tour in that country, and on that occasion, 15 were selected”, FCRF detailed.
The Federation has informed the player and his team, the Club Sport Herediano of the Costa Rican league, and now the procedure to follow for his defense is in the hands of the soccer player and his club.
Waiting for FIFA resolution
“It is important to clarify that, at this time, the player has not been disqualified from participating in any competition, pending FIFA’s resolution,” FCRF reported.
The entity has assured that it will not refer the matter further as doping controls are part of FIFA’s competition regulations ahead of the Qatar 2022 World Cup and as the case is at the investigation stage.
