Foggia still has no opponent in Sepang

Date:

The Italian Dennis Foggia (Honda) did not improve on his best time from the first free practice session, although he didn’t need to either, as he was fastest on the first day of Moto3 free practice for the Malaysian Grand Prix. which will take place this weekend at the Sepang circuit, where the world champion is already Izan Guevara (GasGas) was eighth.

Foggia set a morning time of 2:12.226 that nobody could beat all day, ahead of Japanese Ayumi Sasaki (Husqvarna) and David Muñoz (KTM) and Jaume Masiá (KTM).

The Spaniard David Muñoz (KTM), who in the morning failed to “get into” the second direct classification, was one of the first to achieve it in the second round of tests by lowering his personal best by approx. about four tenths of a second in twelfth , while at another point on the track, at turn nine, another Spaniard, Daniel Holgado, crashed, although he managed to recover his motorcycle and continue on the asphalt, somehow returning in his workshop and repair it.

Ahead of Muñoz and in those first minutes only the Italian Stefano Nepa (KTM) improved his record to go from thirteenth to seventh provisional position, but there are still more than twenty minutes of free practice ahead and the next driver to “jump into the fray” is another Italian, Andrea Migno (Honda) who climbs to sixth from twelfth morning.

Once again and as is usually the case throughout the season, the former world champion, the Spaniard Izan Guevara (GasGas), could be seen riding alone at all times, looking for the best line.

But, again, entering the last six minutes the strategy war began. to all the teams to find the best references of their rivals and thus improve their records in a circuit where the two long straights of the circuit make the slipstreams decisive.

In the end, almost everyone looked for the “wheels” of the KTM riders, the Turkish Deniz Öncü or Jaume Masiáin addition to the GasGas, world champion Izan Guevara, who suffered a fall without consequences near the end of the session, and his teammate Sergio García Dols.

In those minutes, David Muñoz became the star again, rising to third position, as well as Iván Ortolá (KTM) who, from being out of the second straight classification, climbed to sixth place, just ahead of Nepa and also the Japanese Tatsuki . Suzuki (Honda) improved his time, but his teammate, the Italian Dennis Foggia, who followed his slipstream, could not cure any of the thousandths of his “chrono”, although he did not need it either because he kept the first position.

With Foggia in the lead despite not lowering his time, Ayumu Sasaki achieved second place, with Muñoz and Masiá behind them. The world champion, Izan Guevara, could not improve his time but finished eighth and, therefore, within the second direct classification, as well as his teammate Sergio García Dols, in his case ” in extremis”, with the fourteenth category record.

In addition, riders like Riccardo Rossi (Honda), who was very angry after a crash, the Brazilian Diogo Moreira (KTM) or the Spanish Daniel Holgado (KTM) achieved their goal.

Xavier Artigas (CFMoto), as well as Adrián Fernández (KTM), Deniz Öncü, the British John McPhee (Husqvarna), Carlos Tatay (CFMoto), and Ana Carrasco (KTM), who closed the time classification.
