Femke Bol won silver at the Eugene World Championships in the 400m hurdles, an event she won in the Diamond League. At the Indoor World Championships in Belgrade he won silver in the 4×400 relay and the 400, and at the European Championships in Munich, also held this year, he won three golds in the 4×400 relay, the 400 hurdles and the 400 smooth.
The Dutch woman defeated Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Belgian heptathlete Nafissatou Thiam in the final selection.
In the women’s category, the prize was awarded to Norwegian middle-distance runner Jakob Ingebritsen and Swedish pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis, who also shone in their own light.
The Nordic athlete was world runner-up in the 1,500 meters and champion in the 5,000 in Eugene; runner-up at the Indoor World Championships in Belgrade in the 1,500m and at the European Championships in Munich, he achieved the double by taking crowns in the 1,500m and 5,000m. He also won four Diamond League events, two in the mile and two in the 1,500.
In addition, he achieved the first world record of his career, setting a mark of 3:30.60 in the 1,500 indoors in Lievin (France).
Duplantis added his second outdoor world title in Eugene and his first indoor in Belgrade, and also his second European crown in Munich, as well as winning all Diamond League events. All this is decorated with several world records to raise the bar to 6.21 meters.
Greek javelin thrower Elina Tzengko and Lithuanian discus thrower Mykolas Alekna were recognized as the best youth of the year.
The prize for fair play went to Andorran Nahuel Carabaña, for stopping to help Danish Axel Christensen, who fell and was immobilized, during the 3,000 hurdles series at the European Championships in Munich.
The Ukrainian Iolanta Khropach was also recognized in the federative leaders section, and in the coaches section, the Bosnian Kada Delic Selimovic and the Estonian Heiko Vaat.
