Gary Neville, former Manchester United right-back and current commentator for the Sky Sports channel, says Cristiano Ronaldo’s controversial second spell at the Old Trafford club “needs to end” soon. “United are better off without him,” added Gary Neville.

Tras his reaction to his substitution against Tottenham by leaving the field of play and going to the locker room before time, CR7 was not in the squad on Saturday against Chelsea (1-1). “Cristiano Ronaldo needs to go somewhere else and play every week because he can’t accept being on the bench,” said Gary Neville. Neville to Sky Sports. “”Finish this week or do a truce to get to the World Cup and then finish it. But it has to end,” said the man who has been capped 85 times by England.

“Manchester United are better without him and Erik ten Hag (Manchester United manager) knows that. The only thing Cristiano and the club can do is meet next week and end the relationship.”the words of Gary Neville.

Another former United defender, Dutchman Jaap Stam, said as much Cristiano Ronaldo’s frustration for his substitution is understandablebut the 37-year-old Portuguese star is in danger of interrupting his own history.

It is not fair to remember him in this situation. It’s been world class, I still think it’s world class, and you don’t want to go into the history books by walking off the field because you’re not happy that you’re not playing,” said Stam.

“United score more goals and win more points without him, it’s a fact. He is reaching the end of his career. He just has to assume the team is better off without him … or walk away. He can’t deal with being a substitute,” added the former United defender between 1998 and 2011 and international for the Netherlands 67 times.
