Fernando Verdasco made his debut on Monday with a victory over Bulgarian Dimitar Kuzmanov in the first round of the Community of Madrid Challenger, played until Sunday at Club de Campo.
Verdasco, fourth seeded in the tournament and number 120 in the ATP rankings, he defeated Kuzmanov, 206th in the world, 6-3, 6-4. Last week the man from Madrid did not pass the qualifying phase of the tournament in Marrakech (Morocco).
Fifth seed German Mats Moraing also advanced to the round of 16 beating Frenchman Mathias Bourgue 6-4, 6-2.
The number one seed in Madrid is Roberto Carballés from Tenerifequarterfinalist in Marrakech and will debut this Tuesday against Kazakh Dmitry Popko, 173 in the rankings.
The second favorite is Brazilian Thiago Monteiro, who on Tuesday will be in action against Portuguese Pedro Sousa, who has been in the main draw since the preliminary phase.
This Tuesday, Feliciano López from Toledo is also making his debutthird seed and will play against Italian Raul Brancaccio.
