One of the issues that became clear throughout the last Athletic assembly was that close to 80% of the club’s spending went to paying staff. Uriarte, despite everything, removes the option to propose a salary reduction or a change in parts of the first team, something that has already happened and occurred during the COVID period.
“We have not considered anything like that. I don’t think it can be done. We want to create a sustainable Athletic, try to balance income and expenses, but we do not see that the way to do it is to destroy or try to destroy the contracts that have been signed so far”, argued the president of the rojiblanco club.
Uriarte clarified that “we have to build a competitive team and for that we have to pay competitive salaries, but these have to allow the club to remain sustainable. We never thought of carrying out such a proposal”.
