The league match Premier of Ukraine between Shakhtar Donetsk and the Oleksandria in Lviv stopped for more than an hour after an air raid warning on Saturday, before the players returned afterwards to complete the match (2-2).
Competitive football returned to Ukraine with the start of the country’s new Premier League season in August, following Russia’s invasion of its neighbor in February.
Shakhtar trailed 1-0 in the first half after Andriy Tsurikov’s early goal when the siren sounded and the players were asked to go to the locker room. “Match participants go to shelter. Be careful and find a safe place,” Shakhtar posted on their official Twitter account.
The match restarted after around an hour and 40 minutes, with debutant Bohdan Mykhailichenko equalizing for Shakhtar, but was later sent off by Lucas Taylor.
Mykhailo Mudryk scored to make it 2-1, but Oleksander Demchenko was caught late to deny Shakhtar all three points. The tie leaves Shakhtar second in the league, with 20 points.
Shakhtar, who have played their Champions League home games this season in Warsaw, host RB Leipzig on Wednesday, third in Group F of Europe’s elite club competition with six points.
