‘Wasn’t an arbitrary act’ – Pelosi’s attacker is charged with attempted murder

Date:

The man who hit the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with a hammer on the head has been charged with attempted murder. As the San Francisco prosecutor announced Saturday (local time), a formal charge will be filed against the 42-year-old on Monday. The assailant broke into the couple’s San Francisco home on Friday, yelling, “Where’s Nancy?”

He then hit the politician’s 82-year-old husband, Paul Pelosi, on the head, arm and hands with a hammer. Nancy Pelosi was in Washington at the time of the attack, but flew to San Francisco after the attack to be with her husband.

Husband’s condition has improved
Nancy Pelosi described herself and her family as “traumatized” in an initial response. “Our children, our grandchildren and I are heartbroken and traumatized by the life-threatening attack,” she said on Twitter Saturday night. “We are grateful for the prompt response from law enforcement and emergency services and the life-saving medical care he is receiving.” Paul Pelosi’s condition is said to have improved.

Entered the house through the back door
The investigators will be assisted by FBI agents, San Francisco Police Chief William Scott said at a news conference Friday night. It is not yet known what led to the burglary at the house. “We know this was not an accidental act,” Scott said. The 42-year-old perpetrator entered Pelosis’s home through a back door. Aerial photos showed broken glass at the back of the house. US President Joe Biden told reporters in Wilmington, Delaware on Saturday that Pelosi’s husband is doing better and that the attack appears to have been aimed at Nancy.

Attack fuels fears of political violence
The incident took place about a week and a half before the November 8 midterm elections, fueling fears of political violence ahead of the vote. Over a third of the Senate and the entire House of Representatives are re-elected. The Democrats of US President Biden and Pelosi currently hold the majority in the House of Representatives, but they could lose it in the election and take Pelosi his highest office.

In terms of protocol, she is the number three in the US after Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Pelosi is often criticized by Republicans and is often the target of verbal attacks.
