Verstappen vetoes a television and gives his reasons

Date:

Max Verstappen has decided to boycott a television channel with rights. In particular, the British Sky Sports. And with her, among all her sisters: Sky Sports Italy and Sky Sports Germany. He said enough. The Dutch were fed up with what they heard “Hamilton was robbed” in 2021 and that’s why Verstappen was champion last year. That’s exactly where one of the reporters came from Sky Great Britain in the past GP of the United States, Ted Kravitzsomething Max didn’t like and it filled the glass. Max decides to boycott all ‘Sky’ television and not monitor their microphones in Mexico. And behind him, Helmut Marko and Christian Horner joined in that action, not wanting to talk to said media.

In a press conference, Max Verstappen clarified his reasons. “This year I have always been disrespected. Especially, one person in particular,” he said referring to Ted. “There came a point where enough is enough, I don’t accept it.” he added.

“You can’t live in the past. You have to come first”pointed out the coverage of Sky Sports (in Great Britain), a chain he blames for fueling feelings of hatred towards him on social networks. “Social media is a very toxic place today and if you always come across like that on live TV, you’re making it worse instead of trying to make the world better. You continue to disrespect me. And there will come a time when I won’t can bear it. That’s why I decided to stop answering.”pointed out the two-time world champion, winner of the race in Mexico this Sunday.

In this sense, Max refers to the increase of abuse in social networks. “I think that sport is more popular, so more people watch, so more people write about it. I think this is all. It is not good that they are allowed to write such a thing. So I’m hoping that we can develop some kind of algorithm that prevents people from becoming keyboard warriors. Because these types of people would never come up to you and say these things in front of you, it’s just that they’re sitting in front of their desk or whatever, at home, upset, frustrated, and they can write whatever they want. The platform allows it. That can be really harmful and offensive to some people and it shouldn’t be.”

The boycott should not continue at the next Grand Prix

Apparently, the boycott is only during the Mexican F1 GP and should not continue with the two remaining appointments. This is what Christian Horner, boss of the Red Bull team, said. “Obviously we’re disappointed by some of the disparaging comments that have been made to Sky. So we felt that this weekend we’ll just take a break and it won’t hurt Sky if we take this weekend off.

There should be balance in the comments. Some of the feedback was great, but some of the pieces were too sensationalized. And we’re together as a team.”

“So this is just for the weekend, but it’s just to record our displeasure with some of the less impartial comments that are made or the accusations that are sometimes made as television seems to be increasingly sensationalized.” Homer.
