The Thai Atthaya Titikul reached number 1 in the Rolex women’s world rankings on Monday, ousting the South Korean My Jin Young. Thitikul became the 16th different player to reach No. 1, as well as the second Thai to hold the world ranking lead afterwards Ariya Jutanugarnthat No. 1 for 23 weeks between June 2017 and March 2019. Ko, who spent 152 weeks at the top of the ranking, fell to No. 2
Thitikul is also the second player to reach No. 1 in her debut year on the LPGA Tour, after the South Korean Sung-hyun Park in November 2017. And Titikul, 19, is the second under 20 year old to reach No. 1, matching the New Zealand record my lydia.
In 2017, Thitikul became the youngest winner of a professional golf tournament when she won the Ladies European Thailand Championship as a novice, aged just 14 years, 4 months and 19 days. Thitikul is also the No. 1 amateur for 12 weeks in 2019, at age 16.
After winning four tournaments on the Ladies European Tour from 2017 to 2021, Titikul won two LPGA Tour events this season: the JTBC Classic in March and the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship in September.
