Feyenoord sent Lazio to the Conference

Date:

Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio remained out of the Europa League on Thursday and will play in the Conference after losing against Feyenoord in Rotterdam (1-0). Although ‘laziale’ created more in attack than Feyenoord in the first half, it was the Dutch team, runner-up in the first edition of the Conference League, who scored the only goal. And Santiago Giménez’s goal earned Feyenoord top spot in group F. In another group F match, Midtjylland, second, won 2-0 at Sturm Graz. The 4 teams are tied at 8 points.

Lazio looked for the goal from the first moment. In the 3rd minute, Felipe Anderson crashed the ball into the crossbar. At 2′ Feyenoord started with a good chance from Danilo. On the part of the Romans, there were more chances: one for Cancellieri, another where Bijlow saved those from Rotterdam.

Provedel, Lazio’s goal, also responded with a great save against a shot by Paixao. And, already in the second half, Felipe Anderson tried Justin Bijlow, goalkeeper of Feyenoord.

Giménez came on in the 63rd minute for Danilo (the same minute that ex-Barcelona player Pedro released Mattia Zaccagni in the ‘laziale’ column) and just a minute later the Mexican striker scored the goal who qualified his Feyenoord and eliminated Sarri’s team. Giménez benefited from an unfortunate clash between Provedel and former Barcelonista Patric to score an empty net goal.

Lazio couldn’t react after this blow by Feyenoord. That’s not all. In addition, Luca Romero was fired. Sarri’s men go into the Conference League. Feyenoord, in the round of 16 of the Europa League and Midtjylland, in the playoff of the round of 32.
