FIFA is revolutionizing club seasons due to the emirate’s soaring summer temperatures

The vast majority of fans of Spanish clubs ask themselves: why is the Qatar 2022 World Cup being played in November? FIFA has revolutionized domestic competitions with an unprecedented decision, forcing teams to shut down for a month and a half so their players can go to the World Cup. It is the first time it has happened and it is not well received by those affected.

After an October with a lot of football – we have to keep the consequences of the World Cup to a minimum – the final break will come in a few days. La Liga will resume on December 30 and 31 and until then the clubs will only play friendlies.

According to FIFA, the reasons why the World Cup will be played for the first time in November have to do with the heat. In the summer, temperatures exceed 50 degrees in the Qatari emirate, so the best decision, according to President Infantino, was to postpone the World Cup event to November and December. On those dates, between 20 and 25 degrees are expected and possible situations of dizziness disappear.

The other option was to change the location, but FIFA refused despite the fraud suspicions that existed at the time. That choice was full of doubts. The candidacy was rated the worst in the technical report, but won. The alliance with the RFEF mattered a lot. Figures like Zidane or Guardiola also gave him their support. Despite the win, even the biggest guarantors were suspicious that summer temperatures are close to 50 degrees. After fears of a vital crisis for footballers and fans arose, the institution led by Infantino threw the middle ground. He refused to change venues (Qatar had won the United States vote) and it was eventually decided to play the tournament between November and December.

Then came the second inquest into the ‘FIFAGate’ case, which ended with the senior officials presiding over the highest authority in world football at the time. The Swiss Justice Ministry suspected vote-buying in the 2018 and 2022 World Cup elections in Russia and Qatar. The verdict of the latest ‘FIFAGate’ trial was expected this fall, but has been postponed until 2023.
