the portuguese Carlos Carvalhal did not hide his concern about the defensive fragility that the Celta Vigo this season, but ruled out the possibility that tomorrow they bet on “a long game” in Vallecas because it is not their style of football.
“We study the opponent but our team doesn’t have much sense in the long game, they bet more on the short game. Our matrix is to be an offensive team, but an offensive team has to know how to defend,” he warned in his appearance in front of reporters.
He came out in defense of Argentine goalkeeper Agustín Marchesín, “he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, we have no problem with that”, and confirmed that striker Iago Aspas will be a doubt until the end after being injured in training.
“It is a small stretch, but of no great consequence. It is more for the player’s sensations. Nothing serious. We will think that he will be there, but if he is not on the pitch, we will have eleven Celta players who will fight for three points”, he stated.
In this sense, he did not want to give hints about his eleven although he indicated that Kevin Vázquez could have his first minutes in LaLiga due to the absence of captain Hugo Mallo.
“He is a player with a strong personality, who is very consistent offensively and defensively. They have team spirit and we like team players”, stressed Carvalhal, who praised Rayo Vallecano, “a strong team, especially at home, very aggressive in the good sense of the word”.
