Daniel Cegarra from Cartagena is world champion in Abu Dhabi

Date:

Achieve team gold with the Spanish team and almost reconfirm the individual title achieved in 2021 in the Catalan municipality of Vic

Honey on the lips for Daniel Cegarra, who was about to rehabilitate the bike trial world title yesterday. The 17-year-old from Cartagena took the silver medal in the junior 26-inch category at the world championship held this week in Abu Dhabi. Friends, colleagues and family accompanied the young pilot in this unforgettable stage, which also ended with team gold for the Spanish team.

Small details decided a final in which five other pilots took part. First place was taken by Diego Garrués from Navarre in a final test marked by equality. Cegarra touched the gold, staying ahead of Frenchman Titouan Corre, Czech Vojtech Kalas, Frenchman Pierre Chasseuil and Swiss Kouzma Rehacek, having passed several laps earlier. Problems in one of the sectors robbed Cartagena of gold that was sometimes on the right track.

“It’s not the result I wanted and worked so hard for. But that’s how games are. We leave Abu Dhabi with the gold and silver team. Thanks to those who helped me. I will come back stronger next year,” Cegarra wrote yesterday, at the end of the stage. The man from Cartagena was about to rehabilitate the 2021 title in Vic (Catalonia).

The season is also ending well for the young driver, winner of the Spanish Cup. The man from Cartagena is already thinking about the next course, which will start between February and March with the Spanish Cup. The next World Cup will be in Scotland in August 2023. It will be another chance for Cegarra.
