Accelerate the return to the elite with the sixth win in a row, against Xàtiva, allowing the algareñas to remain undefeated and tenacious leaders of their group
Since last night, FC Cartagena-Algar Surmenor is one step closer to returning to the highest category of women’s volleyball: the Iberdrola League. The algareñas count as wins from the six games played this season. Yesterday’s win against Xàtiva (3-0) allows the girls of Pascual Saurín to remain undefeated and persistent leaders of their group in Superliga 2.
Receiver Cristina Llorens led the course’s sixth win by 12 points. The Asturian is international with the absolute selection of Spain and makes the difference on the track. Every week it is marked as the best in the category by the Federation. Against Xàtiva, Llorens again demonstrated as the top scorer and the only one to achieve four direct aces.
It took some time for the Asturian to cheer up in a first quarter in which the visitors held on but lost morale to mistakes, sweets for an Algar Surmenor who gives little away. Attacks and blocks quickly decided a set that was rarely in danger for the Algareans (25-18). Coach Saurín never allowed a mistake, very above; nor the players themselves, with few unforced errors.
The same 24 minutes were used by the locals to win the second set, this time 25-17. The public celebrated on the auxiliary track of the Palacio de Deportes and the algareñas had more and more fun. The visitors were seriously hit in the end result, already clearly monopolized by Algar Surmenor.
Other colleagues such as Alba García soon joined the iron hand of Cristina Llorens. The Sevillian player was the first to sign this season and it wasn’t long before she played her best volleyball in Cartagena, again scoring 11 points yesterday. Nor is the mighty central defender Michel Jones reserving anything, who has credited 9 to his private account.
At the last minute, Leticia Delagrammatikas signed up for the party. The 18-year-old central defender from Valladolid grew in the final set (25-13), resolved in less time than the rest (20 minutes) and added 5 of her 8 points. An erroneous serve from the visitor Vesy Gueorguieva ended the game. The algareñas have given up just two sleeves in this thrilling start to the season.
