Padraig Harrington achieved a seven-stroke victory in the final event of Charles Schwab Cup this Sunday in Phoenix, but that wasn’t enough to capture the title of Overall Champions Tour to New Zealanders Steven Alker.
Alker he took the annual PGA Tour Champions classification. Even though he finished eight shots behind Harrington in the playoff finale, he led by enough points that his third-place finish was enough to take him overall.
Harrington he took a five-shot lead over Alker after three rounds at Phoenix Country Club by shooting a 9-under 62 on Saturday. On Sunday he made a 65 to secure a comfortable tournament win.
However, facing the general classification, the third place was not enough for him. Alker. Alker has won five tournaments on the Over-50 Tour since joining in the summer of 2021. Prior to his senior victory, Alker won on the Australasian PGA Tour, the Canadian Tour and the Web.com Tour (now Korn Ferry Tour), but never on the PGA Tour.
