Mektic and Pavic, in the semifinals of the ATP Finals through the front door

Date:

the croats Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic settled this Wednesday in the semifinals of the ATP Finals held in Turin (Italy), after winning, in two sets, 6-4 and 7-6 (3) in the duo formed by the Dutch Wesley Koolhof and the English Neal Skupski.

Croats, fourth in the world, they have to defeat the number one ranked couple in straight sets to become the first semifinalist duo and Mektic and Pavic easily won the first set, by stealing the first serve from their rivals, the top favorites to lift the tournament.

The second stake was more even and the Croats wasted four break balls that would have been unbalanced in the balance.

The Anglo-Dutch pair held serve and took the match to a ‘tie-break’, a tiebreaker where Mektic and Pavic once again showed their solidity on serve. and their impeccable reaction to others, where they twice broke their rivals’ serves and confirmed the surprise of the day (7-3)

Mektic, at 33, already knows what it’s like to raise the gimp at the end of the season. Amazingly, he was crowned master in 2020 with his rival this Wednesday, Koolhof, who will play his pass in the semifinals against the pairing of Croatian Ivan Dodig and American Austin Krajicek.
