the Israel Alex Gilady, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 1994, died at the age of 79.reported Thursday the governing body of Olympism.
Journalist by profession and former soccer and basketball player, Gilady is a “pioneer of television at the Olympic Games”, according to the IOCwho expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and announced that, as a mark of respect, the Olympic flag will fly to half the staff at its headquarters in Lausanne within three days.
Gilady, a member of the IOC Radio and Television Commission between 1984 and 2015, began her career as a journalist in Israel in 1964 and became a sports commentator (1968), Head of Sports (1975), Special Operations ( 1977), Vice President (1981 -1996) and vice president of the NBC Sports network.
IOC president Thomas Bach assured that with Gilady’s death, “a pioneer of the modern Olympic Movement” was gone.
Bach acknowledges that Gilady convinced him in 1996 to apply for a position on the Executive Board.“and since then -he pointed out-, he’s always been by my side. He’s a great man and a great friend,” he said.
Gilady received seven Emmy Academy Awards for the Olympic Games in Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, Salt Lake City 2002, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012.
