The World Cup trophy, a visible and an invisible one

Date:

On December 18, the new World Cup champion from Qatar will lift the Champion’s Cup in Lusail Stadium. A trophy that until 1970 was used Jules Rimet Trophy and since 1974 the current one of FIFA World Championship.

An original trophy that the winning nation barely got hold of when it was raised in the skies of Qatar and later in the initial celebration in the locker room. Because at that moment, FIFA will confiscate this cup and present to him the so-called Champions of the FIFA World Cup. This is how it is included in the World Cup Regulations in its article 45 regarding recognitions, trophies and medals. It says “The winning team of the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ will be presented with the FIFA World Cup Trophy (hereafter “Trophy”), which will remain the property of FIFA. The winning team will receive the trophy during a ceremony at pitch at the end of the final and must return the trophy to FIFA in the locker room immediately after the final ceremony and before leaving the stadium. At that time, the winning team will be awarded the FIFA World Cup™ Champions Trophy (hereinafter “Champions Trophy”).”

In the same article, he clarified that it is FIFA’s responsibility to engrave the winning team’s name on the trophy.

The winning team will have to undertake surveillance and custody of both trophies. Both the original and the Cup they receive in the locker room: “The winning participating federation shall take all necessary steps, at its own expense, to guarantee the security of the trophy and the champions’ trophy while said awards are in its possession.”

The winning association shall retain temporary custody of the champions’ trophy, which shall remain the property of FIFA at all times and shall be returned to FIFA immediately upon written request

All participating federations will receive a plaque

It was also established that each of the 32 teams that will participate in the World Cup in Qatar will receive a commemorative plaque and as a reminder of the first World Cup event that will take place in the winter.

In addition, those classified in first, second, third and fourth place in the final stage will receive a diploma. And the teams classified in the first three places will receive gold medals for the champion team, silver for the runner-up and bronze for the third place finisher. In addition, FIFA also gives a gift to referees who participate in the match for third place and a medal to those selected for the grand final.
