The basketball team for the mentally handicapped, the Cartagena CD Primisport, has made history in the Spanish championship held in Segovia. For the first time, the club entered the competition with an all-girl team. More than three hundred people and nearly forty clubs took part in a competition organized by the Spanish Federation of People with Intellectual Disabilities (FEDDI) and the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB).
The women’s team was in second place and the men’s team in third place. Primisport was founded in 2003 to meet the sports needs of people with disabilities of more than 33%. There are sections for petanque, golf, table tennis and futsal, among others. The basketball department has been led by Antonio Pelegrín for many years.
