No agreement for the time being – now Telekom employees are also on strike

Date:

The Austria-wide working meetings of A1 Telekom Austria have decided on a one-hour warning strike for Tuesday. The ÖGB gave the go-ahead for the strike on Monday afternoon after the fifth round of wage negotiations ended without result. The company meetings announced afterwards will be interrupted from 11 a.m., the responsible trade union GPF announced.

The reason for the strike is the rather unsatisfactory offers made by the board of A1 Telekom to the negotiating team of the Post and Telecommunications Union (GPF) in previous rounds of negotiations, according to a broadcast.

Trade union: ‘Offer would be real loss of wages’
The latest offer would include a monthly cost of living premium of 200 euros from January to September next year. There would only have been an increase in KV and actual salaries from September 2023. This would have been an increase of five percent plus 85 euros on the salary table. However, the considered period for the rolling inflation before the negotiations is 6.9 percent. “The current offer would therefore mean a permanent loss of real wages for a large part of A1 Telekom’s workforce,” the GPF argues.

The warning strikes are likely to take place without significant inconvenience to customers, according to the union. However, should no agreement be reached in the next round of negotiations on 6 December, further measures are planned.
