German Manuel Neuer is playing his 19th World Cup match against Costa Rica and has become the most capped goalkeeper in the history of the tournament ahead of his compatriot Sepp Maier and Brazilian Claudio Taffarel.
The Bayern Munich player, born in Gelsenkirchen 36 years ago, will appear in Germany’s starting eleven against Costa Rica on the final day of Group E of the World Cup in Qatar.
Neuer played in four World Cups throughout his career. In South Africa 2010 he played six games, in Brazil 2014 he participated in seven leading Germany to the title, while in Russia 2018 he played only three after losing in the first stage. In Qatar he started all three games, including this one, in the group stage.
Neuer made his debut for Germany in 2009 and now reaches his 117th international cap.
