Noah Lyles will attempt the 100-200 double at the Budapest World Cups

Date:

the american athlete Noah Lyles, current 200 meter world champion, announced in Monaco his intention to attack the speed doublet (100 and 200) next year at the World Cups in Budapest.

Present in the Monegasque capital on the occasion of the award ceremony for the world athletes of the year (won by the American Sydney McLaughlin and the Swede Armand Duplantis), Lyles believes that, at the age of 25, he is ready to try.

Lyles was a two-time 200 world champion (Doha 2019 and Eugene 2022) and at the Tokyo Olympics he could only win a bronze medal.. Now, with personal bests of 9.86 in the 100 meters (twenty-fourth all-time) and 19.31 in the 200 (third), he feels it’s time to take on the double challenge of taking the world podium in both events .

A double is in my program for 2023. I’ve been thinking about it for the last few years but they haven’t met all the elements to do it,” he told the press gathered in Monte Carlo.

Lyles feels that he has now completely mastered the 200 distance and that the 100 is easier to focus on.

The key, in his opinion, is in the first 30 meters of the race, a phase where he works hard.Hence his winning record in the 200 World Cup final at Hayward Field in Eugene, giving him third place in the all-time ranking.

The world record, held by Jamaican Usain Bolt with 19.19 since the 2009 Berlin World Cups, is also in the crosshairs of Noah Lyles. “You have to aim for the stars to go to the moon, as they say. This is the moment to say to ourselves: ‘Let’s go for the world record.’
