With the promise of a better life, a Serbian (57) is said to have lured a 45-year-old to Vienna about a month ago, took her passport and ATM card and locked her in his apartment. Physical and sexual violence apparently occurred time and time again. The woman managed to escape on Wednesday and the man was arrested.
About two weeks ago, the woman was allowed to leave the apartment for the first time to work for the Serb, the police reported on Thursday. The 45-year-old testified that he drove a stray truck and she had to carry heavy bags for him. In the end, the Serb was lucky enough to grab the key to the apartment and flee to a supermarket branch.
Defendant denies everything
There she confided in an employee, who in turn called the police. The suspect denies the charges. An entry and approach ban has been issued against him.
“The Viennese police are the point of contact for any victim of violence and will not tolerate any form of violence,” the executive emphasized. The police emergency number 133 can be reached for people who observe violence or are affected by it. The 24-hour emergency helpline for women (01/71719) and the emergency helpline for women’s shelters of the Vienna Women’s Shelter Association (05 77 22) are also staffed 24 hours a day. The Vienna Criminal Investigation Department, crime prevention, also offers advice via the hotline 0800/216346.
