The group of formula 1 williams racing reported this Monday that on the eve of the 2023 World Cup season and after two years at the helm as the team’s top manager and directorthe German Jost Capito left office.
Williams Racing said it will announce the name of its new team principal and technical director “in due course.”
“It has been a great privilege to lead Williams Racing for the past two seasons and lay the foundation for the turnaround for this great team. I look forward to seeing the team on its path to future success,” said Jost Capito, 64, in a team press release.
Capito, formerly head of Volkswagen Motorsport in the World Rally Championship and also at McLaren, takes over at Williams at the end of 2020 following Dorilton Capital’s acquisition of the team from the Williams family.
Since Capito took over, Williams has recovered from drifting in the championship midfield to score its first points in two years at last year’s Hungarian Grand Prix with Canadian Nicholas Latifi seventh and George Russell of Britain is eighth. and even managed a runner-up finish at Belgium’s 2021 with Russell in a rain-shortened race.
Matthew Savage, Chairman of Dorilton Capital, thanked Capito “for his hard work and dedication” as Williams began “a major transformation process to begin the journey of revitalization” at the team.
“We are grateful that Jost has postponed his planned retirement to take on this challenge and will now step down for the next part of this phased process,” Savage added.
