Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister admitted that defeat against Saudi Arabia in their first World Cup game in Qatar “helped them react” as the albiceleste now reach the final.
“Against Arabia it was a difficult blow but it helped us to react, to be more united and in the end it paid off,” said the Brighton player after Argentina’s victory over Croatia which put them in the final .
Mac Allister highlighted the performance of his teammate Lionel Messi. “There are no words to describe him, he is completing a great World Cup and coming out in a semifinal shows what a good player he is and makes us happy for him and for the group,” he said.
For Mac Allister, the fact that Argentina reached the final shows that the South American teams are not behind the Europeans.
“In the preview, it was said that the South American teams do not compete at the level of the Europeans. We showed that this is not the case, that we have a good team and we give everything. We are superior to most of our rival,” he said.
The footballer made sure he had no preference for his rival in the final, which will feature in this Wednesday’s clash between France and Morocco. “There is no preference, the important thing is that we are there, that we have a good group. Whatever it is, we will give it our all”, he commented.
