Cagliari announced this Friday that Claudio Ranieri is its new coach. Ranieri has led the Sardinian team between 1988 and 1991, a period in which he managed to raise it from Serie C to Serie A. The coach who became Leicester Premier League champions in 2015-16, aged 71, has signed until June 30th 2025 and replaces Fabio Liverani. Cagliari currently plays in Serie B.

The last team Claudio Ranieri coached was Watford (2021-22). The English club appointed him on 4 October 2021, when Watford were 15th in the Premier table, fighting relegation. Ranieri was dismissed on January 24, 2022, with the team in the relegation zone. In fact, Watford ended up being relegated to the Championship (the English Second) by being penultimate. Roy Hodgson, Ranieri’s replacement, could not save him.
The career of the Roman coach is a real globetrotter: after his start with Vigor Lamezia and Campania Puteolana, Ranieri managed the following teams: Cagliari, Napoli, Fiorentina, Valencia, Atlético, Chelsea, again Valencia, Parma, Juventus, Rome, Inter, Monaco, the Greece team, Leicester, Nantes, Fulham, Rome, Sampdoria and Watford. Its highlight, the Premier League victory with Leicester.
