Carlos Mayocurrent Spanish 10,000 champion and holder of the third best mark in history in the 10K on the route, will debut in the Nationale Nederlanden-San Silvestre Vallecana on December 31, as confirmed by the organization on Saturday.
The 27-year-old Aragonese athlete arrives in Madrid with credentials that put him among the favourites, even for victory: national champion in the 10,000 (2022) and 5,000 (2021), as well as thirteenth in the Tokyo Olympics and in the Eugene World Cups (United States) this year in the 10,000-meter test.

“I’ve been hearing about how special San Silvestre Vallecana is for years and I can finally say goodbye to the year through the streets of Madrid, the city that saw me born. I dreamed of a debut in style, fighting to break the twenty-eight minute barrier, being the first Spanish and entering a long-awaited and complex podium competing with athletes of the stature of Cheptegei and Katir”, said the Aragonese athlete when announcing his bet.
Carlos Mayo’s presence joins those already announced by Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei, the 5000m and 10,000m outdoor world record holder, and Spaniard Mohamed Katirrunner-up in Europe in the 5,000, world bronze in the 1,500 and holder of the best Spanish brand in history in a 10K, certainly in 2021 San Silvestre which he won in 27:45.
