Athletic begins its 125th anniversary

Date:

The Betis-Athletic game is being played today in Villamarín, but it will start playing a few hours earlier in San Mamés. The rojiblanco club has designed a series of events to coincide with the contention of this league match to begin the celebration of the 125th anniversary of the founding of this institution.

The gates of the field will open at 4:30 pm free of charge for those who wish to enjoy the inauguration acts of the aforementioned anniversary. An hour later, the so-called ‘San Mamés, kantuz’ begins, with a choral interpretation of various classics from the Basque songbook. The Bilbao Choral Society, the Taberna Ibiltari group, Los Chimberos and the Iñigo Cabacas Herri Harmaila will be in charge of directing their respective sections of this theoretically massive concert. The booklet with all the songs to be sung in the choir is now available to download on the club’s official website.

The 125th anniversary events will continue later with a flag raising with the recently deceased Txetxu Rojo in memory. Jose Angel Iribar and Eli Ibarra will also participate in this tribute.

At its conclusion, the league clash between Betis and Athletic will be seen live on the respective giant screens, “thanks to the facilities provided by DAZN”, as explained by the club.

The rojiblanco club has established popular prices in the unclear of the stadium that will provide service throughout the afternoon and will hold a raffle for 52 shirts signed by the lions themselves.
