Moments that will remain in the memory of 2022 for Girona

Date:

Start a new year and a new adventure. A new book is also starting to be published every day so you can continue to enjoy with us what we love so much. That is why this writing is built on the basis of small grains of sand with contributions of memories that remained in their memories during a historical year.

2022 has left many moments that will remain in the retina of the ‘Gironi’ people. Some more, others less, but all are decisive. The milestone par excellence is the return to the First Division. It took two deadly finals to enjoy, once and for all, glory in the top flight of Spanish football. Football owes a debt to Montilivi and good things are made to wait, but they are also hard-earned. And how.

Many also fondly remembered the play-off semifinal match against Eibar. The team traveled with the score, background and experts’ opinions against it, but football and the ‘Orgull Gironí’ proved, as always, a box of surprises. A great goal by Borja in the first minute and Stuani in the end gave a painful blow in the final that they would win.

If ‘Los Payasos de la Tele’ marked a before and after in the childhood of many children, so did Míchel and Samu Saiz in the image of the promotion celebration for rojiblanca fans. ‘The clowns from Girona’ embraced as before. Gone is the “Clown!” from Samu Saiz to the Vallecano coach in that match where the player from Madrid was substituted before halftime. He took off his shirt to throw at him, and the coach was punished in the stands.

Although when it comes to climbing celebrations, one of the photos that spread like wildfire through social networks cannot be forgotten. The club’s photographer, Nuri Marguí, got stuck in one of the city’s trees while taking street photos in an open-top bus. Arnau Martínez went from being one of the heroes of the final to the savior of the festival. The winger did not let go of Nuri’s ankle, leaving everything in an anecdote that, fortunately, did not lead to greater evil.

One of the images for the history of the city is that of the two captains on the balcony of the town hall. Cristhian Stuani and Marc Gasol raise their arms in front of thousands of fans in Plaça del Vi in Girona. Soccer and basketball achieved what the city had never achieved before, achieving promotion to the First Division on the same day.

The enthusiasm of the fans in Montilivi cannot be left behind. Once upon a time, many believers were filled with an environment where they always suffered for their loved ones. 2022 has left many waves surrounding the seats of the rojiblanco fiefdom. They also featured songs like ‘Míchel catalá’. Someone penetrated the coach, on and off the green.

Exciting matches also took place, such as in Valladolid at Pucela, in Almería at the Power Horse Stadium or in Burgos at El Plantío. Against the Blanquivioletas both teams had an exhibition, against the Andalusians three painful points were achieved with two missed penalties by the visitors and against Burgos they could have chewed on tragedy if not for the hand of Juan Carlos. Girona went into the play-offs while Oviedo’s players celebrated their passage to the final stage with a speech that sang of Burgos’ non-existent goal. The before and after image of Carlos Tartiere represents a total contrast of emotions. From absolute joy to the most abominable sadness.

Finally, it is worth highlighting the month of March. The month in which full success was achieved and the stage in which, after leaving relegation, they began to believe in the miracle of good results. And notice. Here we go, First. For many more years. Happy 2023.
