Jaume Munar ended his participation in the Maharashtra Open on Monday after losing in two sets (6-4 and 7-5) to Dutchman Tallon Griekspoora player with more weapons for the hard court where the tournament is held.
Munar, who two months ago achieved the most prestigious victory of his professional career in Tokyo by defeating Norwegian Casper Ruud 6-3 in doubles, crashed in Pune (India) with a solid player and sure of his serve. Griekspoor posted ten in a row and won a very high percentage of points in the games he served.
In total, the Balearic tennis player, 58 on the ATP, had a chance to force a third set tied at five and serve, but Griekspoor won the eleventh game and the last one on his serve.
The Dutchman, ranked 95th in the world, will face Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili in the second round, who eliminated Italian Marco Cecchinatto without major complications, 6-2, 6-2.
