David Gold, co-chairman of east London club West Ham, has died aged 86 after a short illness, the sports institution said on Wednesday.
“It is with deep regret that West Ham United can confirm that our beloved co-chairman David Gold passed away on Wednesday morning,” a club statement said.
Gold, who shared the West Ham presidency with David Sullivandied peacefully surrounded by his daughters, Jacqueline and Vanessa, as well as his fiance Lesley.
The manager, a lifelong West Ham fan, has been with Sullivan at the helm of the club since 2010when the two bought a majority stake, becoming president and one of the owners of Birmingham City until 2009.
“On behalf of everyone at the club, it is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we mourn the death of our colleague and friend, David Gold,” Sullivan said.
The team coach, david moyes, He joined in the condolences and extended the sentiments of the squad and the coaching staff to the co-president’s family, while highlighting Gold’s frequent visits to training and the “support and encouragement” he gave him at the helm of West Ham.
