Ferran Torres and Savic, penalized two games for their fight at the Metropolitan

Date:

Competition both inflicts the minimum penalty set out in the Disciplinary Code for “producing violently outside play, being unable to contest the ball or interrupting play”

Ferran Torres and Stefan Savic were handed two match bans this Wednesday for their fight during last Sunday’s match between Atlético and Barcelona at the Metropolitan. The Competition Committee of the Spanish Football Federation (FEF) imposed this penalty on the Barça striker and the rojiblanco defender after the direct red cards of referee Munuera Montero in the 92nd minute.

The competition has sanctioned Ferran Torres and Savic with the minimum penalty provided for in Article 130.2 of the FEF Disciplinary Code, which states that “two to three games shall be penalized for violent conduct outside play, inability to control the ball or play stopped playing”.

According to Munuera Montero, Savic “constantly held an opponent (Ferran Torres) by the neck with excessive force with his arm”, while the Valencian Barça player “persistently grabbed the hair” of the central defender from the mattress, for which both were expelled.

The competition has rejected Barcelona’s allegations, as the facts described by the Andalusian referee in the minutes are in line with reality and there was no obvious material error by the referee. Pending a possible appeal from the Barça club to the Appeals Board, Ferran Torres will miss Barça’s next two league matches against Getafe and Girona, while Savic cannot play against Almería or Valladolid.

The competition has also rejected Robert Lewandowski’s incorrect line-up requested by Espanyol after the Polish striker played with Barcelona in the league match corresponding to matchday 15 of the competition.
