In Africa cheating is used all too often in the world of youth soccer. After the embarrassment generated in Cameroon as a result of cheating on the age of its selections, now it is Chad that has been exposed by lying about the age of its young soccer players: they are older than they say.
However, FIFA’s controls are increasing and in recent times they have been caught red-handed, as it happens. And it is that the children did not pass the tests to which they were subjected to find out their real age. So, Chad was kicked out of the U-17 African Cup qualifiers after evidence of a failed MRI.
He was disqualified on the eve of the playoffs to start and was told the night before the playoffs began. The vice president of the country’s football federation, Nair Abakar, said: “CAF (the African federation) announced the disqualification at 10:23 pm, something that is difficult to digest. If you put yourself in our positions, you can see how difficult this decision is to accept.”
It should be remembered that Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroonian soccer federation, has spoken before about the scandal in Cameroon, arguing that it has damaged the reputation of his country.
