James Vowles, ex-Mercedes, has signed on as the new principal of the Williams team

Williams’ career is pleased to announce that James Vowles will be your new team manager. James will join the team on February 20, before the first Grand Prix in Bahrain.”

James will be the third team manager in the 46-year history of the Grove team, then frank williams Y Jost Capito.

The 43-year-old Briton has been instrumental in securing nine F1 constructors’ championships and has overseen more than 120 career victories.

James has a 21-year career in Formula 1 to date and will join Williams Racing from the Mercedes F1 team, the team he has been with since its inception in 2010. His most recent role in Brackley like Director of Motorsport Strategy, a position he held for over four years.

Prior to that, he held key engineering and strategy roles at Mercedes and former F1 teams including Honda Racing, Brawn GP and British American Racing.

“I can’t wait to get started with Williams Racing. It is an honor to join a team with such a rich heritage. The team is an icon of our sport, one that I have the utmost respect for, and I look forward to the challenge,” said James.

As a race strategist at Brawn, James spearheaded the strategy that became Williams Racing’s brand ambassador, Jenson pressedwill ensure the title of pilots of 2009 Formula 1 World Championship and the team taking the constructors’ championship, results in the team being in the record books as the only F1 team with a perfect championship record.

During his time with MercedesJames has been key to many of the team’s successes, including eight Constructors’ Championship victories, six Drivers’ Championships with Lewis hamilton and the championship-winning season of Nico Rossberg.

James added: “Williams Racing has put their faith and trust in me, and I will do the same in return. The team has enormous potential and our journey together begins in a few weeks.”

Speaking about his departure from Mercedes after more than 12 years with the team, James said: “Mercedes has been very supportive throughout my journey and we have parted ways on good terms after more than 20 years working in Brackley.

“I’m thankful for all of that True [Wolff] and the team gave, and it’s been a special experience to travel through failure and success together.”

Toto himself had some funny words to say when the news of James’ appointment broke: “Having worked with him since I first joined the team in 2013, I know how diligent, capable and talented he is and I’m very pleased to see James. ” has evolved and grown over the last decade.

“Although it is naturally sad to say goodbye, we wish him every success and are delighted that he will take the next step in his career with Williams, a strong technical partner of ours and holding a place close to my heart.”
